Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Monday.
He said in Kulgam, at a checkpoint at Bonigam, 3.1 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of one Showkat Ahmad Dar, son of Sonauallah Dar, resident of Bonigam. He has been arrested.
At Sopat Maldar link road near Ziyarat Sharief, two persons — Muneeb Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Ganie, and Akash Lateef Ganie, son of Mohammad Lateef Ganie, both residents of Nussu Badragund – were arrested after 80 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance were recovered from their possession.
In Shopian, at Chotipora crossing, 1.4 Kg of contraband poppy straw-like substance was recovered from Ghulam Mohammad Thoker, son of Abdul Khaliq Thoker of Barbugh Imamsahib. He was also arrested.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
