Srinagar: A middle-aged woman was allegedly killed by her son in the Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a tragic incident in Rafiabad village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a son allegedly murdered his mother, who was in her late 40s.

The accused, identified as Aamir Wani alias Gajini, a driver by profession, is reportedly a drug addict, KNO quoted locals as saying.

Officials said that the tragic event took place during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday in Hadipora village of Rafiabad. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by her son and was rushed to Sub-district hospital Sopore where doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.

Police said they arrested the accused shortly after the commission of the crime. The case has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigations are underway, a police official said.

He added that the body of the deceased was transferred to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for legal-medico formalities.

Expressing their concerns, locals called upon the police to take strict measures against drug peddlers to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The official said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and arrested the accused son, who was identified as Amir Farooq Wani.

A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is on.
