Gang of burglars busted in Ganderbal; stolen property recovered

Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal have busted a “notorious” gang of burglars and recovered stolen property worth lakhs whole three accused persons have been arrested, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.

He said on March 22, Police Station Gund received a written complaint from one Tajamul Hussain, owner of Hung Park Restaurant, stating therein that during intervening night of 21-22 March, some unknown persons had broken locks and barged into his restaurant, and stolen valuable electrical and electronic gadgets.

A case (FIR No.11/2024) was registered under relevant sections of law and investigation started during which police zeroed in on a few suspects and started to hunt them. In the process, one Irshad Ahmad Kalwatho, son of Abdul Rashid Kalwatho, resident of Naninara, Sumbal, was apprehended and during sustained questioning, he admitted to have committed the crime and also disclosed the identity of the other accomplices.

Feroze Ahmad Kalwatho, son of Farooq Ahmad Kalwatho, and Mohammad Saleem Kalu alias Jana, son of Abdul Khaliq Kalu, both residents of Naninara, Sumbal, who were subsequently arrested.

On their disclosure, the stolen property worth lakhs  of rupees were recovered from different spots at Naninara, Sumbal.

During further questioning, additional stolen property was recovered which unveiled the non-reported theft cases involving this gang. Moreover, a Tata Mobile vehicle (JK01M-6083) used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Further investigation is going on. More arrests and recovery of stolen property is expected, police said.

Separately, police also arrested two burglars and recovered stolen property from their possession in Awantipora, police spokesperson said.

He said working on a case of theft at a shop in Gulshanpora Tral, police arrested two accused persons involved in it. They have been identified as Owais Gulzar, son of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and Fayaz Ahmad Gojar, son of Mohammad Ashraf Gojar, both residents of Gulshanpora Tral. On their disclosure, stolen property has also been recovered.
