Zafar Iqbal Manhas to contest Anantnag-Rajouri seat; M Ashraf Mir from Srinagar
Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) started its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by announcing its candidates for two of the three parliamentary seats in Kashmir.
The party, led by Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has decided to field Zafar Iqbal Manhas for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat and Mohammad Ashraf Mir for the Srinagar seat. Dilawar Mir, the party general secretary, made the announcement in Srinagar on Thursday.
Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, who parted ways with the PDP in 2020 to form the Jammu Kashmir Apni Party, has positioned his party as a “formidable contender” in the upcoming polls.
With the Election Commission allotting the ‘Bat’ symbol to the party, JKAP has emerged as the first political outfit to name its candidate for the Srinagar constituency.
Reacting to his nomination, Manhas told media that he had no idea that his party is going to announce his name.
“Now that the party has decided, I will try to whatever is possible within my limits,” he said.
While the National Conference (NC) has already named its senior leader Mian Altaf as a candidate for the said constituency, the founder chairman of DPAP, Ghulam Nabi Azad too is testing his fate here.
However, PDP and BJP are yet to announce their candidates for the segment.
