The five-day EDPs are being conducted at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Banihal, Ramban and Government Higher Secondary School, Batote in which 120 aspirants were enrolled.

The trainees include entrepreneurs who have started their business ventures as well as aspiring entrepreneurs who intend to become self-reliant under different government-sponsored schemes.

While interacting with the trainees, Director JKEDI, Rajinder Kumar Sharma urged them to choose entrepreneurship and self-employment avenues to reduce dependency on government jobs. He directed the JKEDI district officers to facilitate training programs for prospective entrepreneurs professionally and make them interactive so that the aspirants are motivated to take up entrepreneurship as their career option. He also urged the course team to brief the participants about the different facets of J&K Startup Policy 2024-27 so that they can avail its benefits in future.

On the occasion, Henna Latief, who runs and owns a food processing unit “Bahi Foods” at Banihal shared her experience as an entrepreneur. She remarked that she has been able to establish her dream business unit which is employing many people despite several challenges.

Another entrepreneur, Lalita Devi from Batote who runs a mushroom cultivation unit said that she is happy to be part of the SANKALP training program and hopes that it will help her to realise her dream of becoming a “Lakhpati Didi”.

Pertinently, during the five-day EDP, the participants will be apprised about basic business concepts like business plan formulation, marketing plans, accounts management and other topics of relevance, so that they can successfully run their businesses. The participants have already received sector-specific short-term technical training in their chosen businesses, and will now benefit from JKEDI’s specially curated training modules.

Notably, SANKALP which aims at strengthening the institutional mechanisms for skill development and increasing access to quality and market-relevant training for youth across the country, was launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.
