2 drug smugglers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam

Srinagar: Police have booked two “notorious” drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam, a police spokesperson informed Monday.

He said two “notorious” drug smugglers identified as Sabzar Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Salam Rather of Malipora, and Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Ahsan Bhat of Tarigam, have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. The booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu, police spokesperson said.

He said that many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and that they were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of District Kulgam.

Separately three drug peddlers were also arrested in Kulgam.

Police said Avinash Gupta, son of Narinder Gupta; and Yashpal Kumar, son of Shanker Das, both the residents of Gaddi Udhampur, were arrested at a checkpoint near Walnut factory on the National Highway and their car (JK20-4946) seized after 6.5 kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.

At Village Berigam, 80 grams of cannabis-contraband substance were recovered from the possession of one Mohammad Yousuf Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Berigam, who was arrested and acase registered in this regard.
