Drug peddlers’ properties attached

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have attached properties of three notorious drug peddlers, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

He said a double-storied residential house and vehicles worth approximately Rs 36 lakhs belonging to “notorious” drug peddlers — Mohammad Zahid Shah (Geelani), son of Peer Hussain Shah, resident of Basgran Uri; Ahtisham-ud-Din Khan, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Ladoora Rafiabad; and Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Batangi Boniyar were attached under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act of 1985.

Police in Kulgam also attached a single-storied residential house worth Rs 10.5 lakhs belonging to “notorious” Nisar Ahmad Khanday, son of Bashir Ahmad Khanday, resident of Nipora.

The action was taken under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act of 1985 & is linked with case FIR No. 39/2023 U/S 8/15 of NDPS Act of PS Qazigund, the spokesperson said.

He said these properties were identified as illegally acquired properties during the course of the investigation. “The properties were prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the drug peddlers,” the spokesperson said.

2 drug peddlers held in Baramulla

Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

He said police intercepted and later arrested two persons — Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh, son of Mohammad Subhan, and Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Rasool, both residents of Bernate Boniyar – after 48 grams of cannabis and cash of Rs 4,600 was recovered from their possession. A case has been registered in this regard.
