Div Com Kashmir unveils Wall Calendar-2024 of Sericulture Department

SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, in the presence of Director Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today unveiled the Annual Wall Calendar 2024 of Sericulture Development Department, here.

Speaking on the occasion, Div Com said that the Sericulture sector being a viable sector of our economy provides livelihood to a sizable population of U.T of J&K.

Lauding the efforts of the department in this regard, he said that the multipronged approach is being adopted by the department to disseminate awareness among people of J&K about the various schemes, facilities and activities of the department to leverage the potential of sericulture sector, and publication of the annual wall calendar is one of the initiatives in this direction taken by the department.

He said that silkworm-rearing activities are cost-effective with higher returns. He instructed that an aggressive publicity campaign must be launched to aware people of the benefits of silkworm rearing and that every available media be explored for the purpose.

On the occasion, the Div Com further assured the Director Sericulture J&K that vacant Government land will be provided for the development of Mulberry nurseries and farms across Kashmir Division.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Sericulture J&K said that the annual wall calendar/other published shall be a regular annual feature.

He highlighted the importance of undertaking extensive mulberry plantations on vacant Government lands for raising highly improved mulberry Nurseries/farms to increase the green mulberry reserves for enhancing productivity and readily keeping available mulberry leaves for Silkworm Rearing across J&K.

On the occasion, the Director of Sericulture apprised the Div Com about the various initiatives and programmes of the Sericulture Development Department. He further informed him that the Department has kick-started 05 days of skill up-gradation programmes as part of the departmental awareness programmes across J&K.

The Development Officer, ISDP, Sonawari and other officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
