DLSA Sgr organises awareness prog on child labor & exploitation

SRINAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar and Social Welfare Department, Srinagar, in collaboration with Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Forum today organised an awareness programme on various central and state Labour Laws and Welfare Schemes floated by the government on combating “Child Labour, Bondage/Forced Labour, Human Trafficking, e.t.c.” at Slum areas of Nowgam and Bemina Byepass areas of Srinagar.

The awareness programme was held under the guidance of Chairman (PDJ) DLSA, Srinagar, Jawad Ahmed.

The programme aimed to raise awareness about the prevalent issues of child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking, as well as to highlight the importance of education, child custody and protection from abuse.

Sunila Kumari, J.L.A, DLSA Srinagar, emphasized the legal provisions in place to protect the rights of children and vulnerable individuals. She further emphasized the commitment of DLSA to provide free legal aid and assistance to victims of child rights violations.

Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Syed Shabana Kausar, panel lawyer of DLSA, Srinagar, encouraged participants to spread awareness about these issues and to report any suspected cases of child exploitation or abuse to the authorities.

Participants were informed about the importance of access to education for children and the legal framework that ensures their right to education.

To encourage and attract children towards education, DLSA, Srinagar & Department of Social Welfare with the support of the Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Forum, distributed story books, notebooks, pencils, etc among the children of slum dwellers.

The attendees pledged to play an active role in preventing and reporting cases of child exploitation and abuse.
