Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Shopian and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police spokesperson informed Sunday.
He said in Shopian, at Shah-e-Hamdan Colony, one Tariq Ahmed Rather, son of Abdul Rahim Rather of Yamrach Kulgam, was arrested after 7.4 kgs of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Dangam Shopian arrested one drug peddler identified as Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Amin Sheikh of Kulgam was arrested with 140 grams of cannabis powder-like substance.
During checking at Kupwara crossing in Sopore, Owais Mushtaq Hakeem, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Hakeem of Bismillah Colony Model Town Sopore was arrested after 7 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
