Srinagar: Police busted a drug module by arresting three members of a family in Anantnag and recovered a huge consignment of contraband/ psychotropic substance from their possession, a police spokesman informed Friday.
He said acting on “reliable information” police raided a house at Seer Hamdan, Mattan, and arrested Mohammad Ramzan Ganai (son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie); his wife Shahzada Akhter, and their son Zubair Ramzan Ganai, who as per police were involved in illegal trade of illicit alcohol and cannabis powder. The trio had concealed huge quantities of illicit alcohol and cannabis in specially made cavities in their residential house, two cars and a motorcycle.
During a search of the house, police recovered about 9.27 Kgs of cannabis powder and 867 bottles of illicit alcohol. Their vehicles and cash of Rs 13,325, believed to be proceeds of narcotics, was also seized, the police spokesman said.
In the neighbouring Kulgam district, two drug peddlers were arrested and contraband substances were seized from their possession.
At Alstop Chowk, police intercepted a vehicle (JK14B-2204) with two persons on board. Aabid Hussain Peer, son of Peer Sirajudin of Soaf Shali, Anantnag, and Sohail Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Abass Wani of Dhamal Anantnag, travelling in it were arrested after five grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession, police said, adding the vehicle was also seized.
Cases have been registered in respective police stations for further investigation.
