Srinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau Friday said that it has arrested a Block Development Council (BDC) member in Ganderbal red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
Sharing details, ACB said it had received a written complaint against Majid Aziz, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Ganderbal, and Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, BDC member, alleging that they were demanding bribes for the issuance of disposal permit from an authorized material supplier.
It said the complainant had sought a disposal permit from DMO Ganderbal, who delayed the issuance on one or the other pretext and later told the complainant to visit BDC member Gowhat Ahmad and do whatever he demanded.
As per the complaint, Gowhar Ahmad demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 for the issuance of the document out of which ₹10,000 was to be paid in advance today.
After registering a formal case, ACB constituted a trap team which caught the accused BDC member red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of ₹10,000 from the complainant. The money was recovered from the accused on the spot.
The accused BDC member Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, son of Sonaullah Reshi of Safapora Ganderbal, was arrested while the role of DMO Majid Aziz in the matter is being investigated, ACB said, adding further investigation into the case is going on.
