Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested Tanveer Ahmad Dar, an Assistant Engineer in the Rural Development Department, Surasyar, Chadoora, District Budgam.
The arrest came in response to a written complaint filed against Dar, accusing him of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2000 in exchange for releasing due payments to a contractor.
The complaint, lodged with the ACB, detailed the alleged malpractice by Dar, who reportedly demanded a 2% cut of the total cost of bills from a contractor associated with the Rural Development Department. The contractor, who had completed assigned works, claimed that Dar insisted on the bribe before processing two bills amounting to ₹90,000 each. Faced with no other option, the complainant acquiesced to the demand, paying ₹2000 to Dar to facilitate the release of the pending payment.
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB promptly registered Case FIR No. 25/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at PS ACB Srinagar, initiating a thorough investigation.
A dedicated trap team was formed as part of the investigation, which successfully executed a sting operation, catching Tanveer Ahmad Dar red-handed while demanding and accepting the pre-determined bribe amount of ₹2000. The illicit funds were immediately recovered from Dar’s possession during the operation. Subsequently, Tanveer Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad and resident of Badipora, Chadoora, District Budgam, was taken into legal custody.
As the arrest was made, the ACB emphasized that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
