Srinagar: Police in Handwara have attached the property of a notorious drug peddler in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said land measuring seven Marlas belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malla of Muqam Himwanpora Kralgund has been attached under section 68-F of NDPS Act 1985.
The property was identified as “illegally acquired property”. The property was “prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the owner,” police said, adding that Malla is currently detained under PIT-NDPS Act and lodged at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Separately, police said a drug peddler was arrested in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
At a checkpoint established at Alstop Chowk, police intercepted a car (JK13H-0311) driven by Safeer Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Turka Tachloo, Anantnag. During the search, 5.2 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance filled in a nylon bag was recovered, following which Dar was arrested and the vehicle seized, police said.
