Srinagar: A solemn condolence meeting was held at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on November 22, 2023, to pay homage to the departed actor-director Mushtaq Kak.
Organized by Actors’ Creative Theatre (ACT) in collaboration with All J&K Folk Artists Association and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the event aimed to celebrate the life and contributions of the esteemed artist.
Former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Zaffar Iqbal Manhas presided over the meeting, which drew more than 60 participants, including artists from the realms of theatre, television, films, and young art enthusiasts.
The gathering featured the screening of a documentary film documenting the life and works of Mushtaq Kak. The film stirred deep emotions among the attendees, providing a reflective journey through the artist’s illustrious career.
Following the screening, several speakers took the stage to share their thoughts on Kak’s enduring legacy. They spoke eloquently about his relentless struggle, unwavering dedication, and notable achievements in the world of theatre. Kak, a self-made professional, devoted his entire life to the art of theatre, leaving an indelible mark on the national and international stage.
Highlighting Kak’s humble beginnings, the speakers underscored his significant role in the promotion of theatre. They acknowledged his contributions to the elevation of the art form both nationally and internationally.
The speakers also emphasized Kak’s role as an inspirational figure for the next generation. His encouragement of youth, particularly from Jammu and Kashmir, was commended, emphasizing the positive impact he had on aspiring artists in the region.
In addition to his theatrical achievements, Kak’s contributions as a cinematic artist were also lauded. The speakers, including Showkat Magray, Arshad Mushtaq, Shehzad Shabbeer, Akhtar Hussain, Gulzar Ganai, Syed Humayun Qaisar, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, collectively painted a vivid picture of Mushtaq Kak’s influence on the world of arts and culture.
