Food Safety Deptt Kashmir conducts surprise raids in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: On a specific tip-off, a team of the Food Safety Wing of Drugs & Food Control Organization, Kashmir comprising Intelligent Cum Legal Cell and Food Safety Wing Srinagar today conducted surprise inspections of Bemina, Qamarwari and Dalgate area.

During the inspection, the team found two sweets and bakery manufacturing units operational in contravention of provisions of FSSA 2006, as the bakery and sweets items were being manufactured under unsanitary/ unhygienic conditions, and both units were sealed. 1.5 quintals of sweets were seized and samples were forwarded to the Food testing laboratory for testing of quality and safety parameters.

It was given out that the raids will continue in the coming days given the festive season to ensure quality sweets and other food items are available to the consumers.

Meanwhile, Food Safety authorities have warned all Food Business operators particularly those dealing with the manufacture of sweets, bakery items and milk & milk products to strictly adhere to the guidelines and provisions of the Food Safety & Standards Act, any kind of deviation/violation shall call strict penal action warranted under law.

To address the concerns of consumers, and other stakeholders, complainants/grievances about the quality of Food items can be registered through a dedicated helpline (Toll-Free No. 104).
