Hands-on learning: HSC Anantnag to bring crafts to classrooms

Srinagar: The Handicraft Service Centre Anantnag, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has started organizing craft demonstration cum awareness programmes in different schools and colleges in various districts of South Kashmir.

These programmes are in place to inspire love and empathy for the rich handicraft heritage of India among students. The historical, cultural and economic importance of crafts and how to connect them to the target audience is the objective of the programme.

Live demonstrations by skilled artists of various crafts in classrooms with active student participation will be an integral part of these CDAPs. In addition, samples of various crafts will be presented to students for first-hand experience and appreciation. Painting and quiz competitions among students on art and culture are also part of the programme.

These awareness programmes are part of a pan-India initiative of the Office of Development Commissioner Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, aimed at reviving interest and appreciation of the artistic acumen of India’s incredible crafts in young buds. 

Similar craft awareness programmes will be organized in other districts in both divisions of the Union Territory by respective handicraft offices of the Development Commissioner Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
