Jammu: The Congress is set to stage a peaceful protest dharna on the eve of the fourth-year anniversary of the downgrading of the Dogra state to a Union Territory, which is causing further distress to the people, says JKPCC Chief.
In a party headquarters meeting held today, PCC President Vikar Rasool Wani reviewed the preparations for commemorating the 39th Martyrdom Day of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, followed by a peaceful protest dharna advocating the restoration of statehood and early elections for the state assembly, ULBs, and Panchayats.
On October 25th, during a rally in Rajouri, JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani declared the Congress’s opposition to the celebration of UT Divas by the BJP. He stressed the need for the state’s restoration and prompt assembly elections.
During today’s meeting, Wani urged senior party leaders to convey the strong sentiments of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, “who are yearning for the swift reinstatement of statehood and assembly elections”. “The people of J&K feel betrayed by the historical state’s downgrading, particularly due to the unfulfilled promise in Parliament regarding the speedy restoration of statehood.”
Wani criticized the BJP government’s decision to celebrate UT Divas on the fourth-year anniversary as an insensitive move that adds to the people’s suffering.
