VC IUST, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, conferred with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar

Awantipora: Gandhi Global Family today conferred the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar Award, on Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo for his outstanding contribution towards the nation in the sphere of academics.

Padma Shri, Dr S P Varma, President, Gandhi Global Family said that IUST under the leadership of Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo has emerged conspicuous on the educational landscape of the Country.

He commended the University’s efforts and initiatives in the sphere of promotion of Innovation, entrepreneurship, skilling, peace and culture studies, and outreach activities. 

He said that the idea of empowering the youth through skilling and capacity building is aligned with the Gandhian Philosophy and said that a system of education rooted in our culture as is manifest in the NEP 2020 has answers for many of our problems. He congratulated Prof Romshoo on taking the lead in NEP implementation.

Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo expressed gratitude to the Gandhi Global Family for the award and said that IUST is conscious of its responsibility towards the Community at large. He said that under the outreach initiatives, IUST engages with the local community especially the disadvantaged sections of the society so as to contribute to their upliftment. 

He said that for the progress and transformation of the Country during the Amritkal, educational Institutions have an important role to play in the manner of focused research on providing actionable solutions to the problems facing society. 

The function was attended among others by Dr Mohammad Matoo, Representative of Gandhi King Foundation, Mr Noor Mohammad Wani, Advisor Gandhi Global Family, Hamid Ullah Hamid Founder Chairman, Kashmir Welfare Centre, Registrar IUST, Dean Students IUST, Finance Officer, Director CIED, Head Centre for International Relations and other faculty members.
