Srinagar: The services of Dial 112 saved a family which had been stranded in the forests of Bangus Valley, and was subsequently rescued by a joint team of police and army, police spokesman informed Monday.

He said Dial-112 received a distress call yesterday informing that one Atiq-ul-Rahman and his family members including five women and five small children (total 11 persons) had gone to Bangus valley in Kupwara for picnic but had lost way while returning through Upper Rajwar Wader Bala route towards Handwara. Their vehicle had got stuck and was unable to move any further, police said.

On being informed about the case, Police Post Zachaldara along with the troops of Army’s 21RR launched a rescue operation and successfully tracked the stranded family, and shifted it to the Police Post Zachaldara for night. Their stuck vehicle was towed from the spot by a JCB arranged by the police, police spokesman said, adding that they were later escorted to the main road where-from they resumed their journey to home.
