DC Srinagar accords approval for establishment of 93 IGUs under HADP

SRINAGAR: In order to review the implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) in the district, a meeting was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex, here. 

At the outset, the DC took a detailed overview of the implementation of HADP in the district through the PowerPoint presentations made by departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Sericulture etc. The DC also took a first-hand appraisal of the progress regarding the achievement of targets and sensitizing farmers about new interventions approved under the HADP to ensure that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries under the programme.

During the meeting, the DC who is also the Chairman District Implementation Committee (DLIC), accorded approval for the establishment of 93 income-generating units (IGUs) in favour of beneficiaries of the Srinagar district.

On the occasion, the meeting was informed that a Seed Village has been established by the Agriculture Department at Chatterhama under HADP for procurement of paddy to the beneficiary farmers.

Similarly, the Horticulture Department has established Mother Orchard at Zakura and Root Stock Bank at Zawoora village under HADP at a cost of Rs 39.38 lakh and 82.97 lakh respectively.

During the meeting, the DC was apprised that as many as 29 projects under HADP are being implemented in Srinagar District including 17 by the Agriculture Department.

The DC was also given a detailed overview of the initiatives taken under HDAP for the development of seed and seed multiplication chain, promotion of mushroom cultivation, apiculture, vegetables/exotic vegetables under open and hi-tech protected cultivation, alternate agriculture system for sustainability, promotion of oil seeds and commercial cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants.

The progress with regard to the formulation of FPOs and Farm Mechanization for Resource Use Efficiency in Agriculture in the Srinagar district was also discussed threadbare besides Technological Intervention for Fish Seed and Trout Production was discussed.

Similarly, the DC reviewed the implementation of interventions and a list of production of designer plants for the promotion of high-density plantations and rejuvenation of orchards under HADP.

Likewise, other allied departments also briefed the DC about the activities taken up under HADP and the targets achieved so far.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the HADP initiative is a major step towards creating a sustainable and profitable agricultural ecosystem. He said the programme aims to empower farmers with knowledge and tools that can help them enhance their productivity and profitability while also contributing to the overall growth of the agriculture sector.

The DC further said that the programme also provides a platform for the farmers to interact with experts from the Agricultural and allied departments and seek their advice on various aspects of farming, besides enhancing agricultural productivity, improving livelihoods, and contributing to the overall economic growth.

Besides, Additional District Development Commissioner, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, the meeting was attended by the General Manager of DIC, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, DFO Urban, Assistant Commissioner of Development, Chief Horticulture Officer, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Lead District Manager and Officers from Cooperatives, SKUAST, HP&MC, KVK, Sheep Husbandry, Sericulture and NABARD.
