DGP inaugurates Moot Court at PTTI Vijaypur

Srinagar: “Police Headquarters in its continuous endeavours has focused on establishing moot courts as a part of the training programme at all Police training institutions in order to give an overview of court proceedings to its investigation officers that will help in identifying the lacunas during the course of Investigation.”

This was stated by the Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh after inaugurating the newly established Moot Court for the trainees/Personnel during his visit to the Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) Vijaypur today.

Under the national campaign Meri Matti Meera Desh, the DGP also launched the Amrit Kalash Yatra and plantation drive. 

The DGP was received by Principal PTTI Vijaypur Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma and other senior officers from the Police & Prosecution wing and was presented a Guard of Honour. 

Soon after his arrival, the DGP J&K kickstarted the Amrit Kalash Yatra and plantation drive under the ongoing national campaign Meri Matti Meera Desh. On the occasion, the DGP along with other senior officers planted saplings in the training institute.

The DGP then inaugurated a newly established Moot Court for the trainees as well as for the Police personnel. On the occasion, the faculty of PTTI demonstrated a live trial of the NDPS case in the Moot Court.

Speaking on the occasion the DGP commended the efforts of PTTI Vijaypur and expressed hope that the moot court mock trials would surely help trainees/Police personnel to comprehend the court customs better and will also refine their abilities to fix investigation gaps if any. He directed the arranging of more such Moot Court mock drills in future to improve the professionalism, and skills of prosecution, witnesses and investigating officers in particular so that cases like NDPS/UAPA could be brought to their logical conclusion in the interest of justice besides other cases.

The DGP said that a dedicated effort from everyone is necessary to improve the conviction rate of heinous crimes. He said that good quality Investigation of UAPA & NDPS cases is also a weapon to curb militancy and drug menace from the UT. He said that the investigation of any case must be worked until the final judgement of the Hon’ble Court. He said that Police Headquarters in its continuous endeavours has focused on establishing moot courtrooms as a part of the training programme at all Police training institutions in order to give an overview of court proceedings to its investigation officers that will help in identifying the lacunas during the course of Investigation. 

The DGP praised Shiv Kumar Sharma, Principal PTTI Vijaypur and PTTI staff for their efforts and initiatives while serving the institution.

Pertinent to mention that J&K Police under its capacity building programmes is focusing on providing a court-like environment to the Police officers and personnel by establishing moot courts in Police training centres across UT.

Earlier, Shiv Kumar, SSP, Principal PTTI Vijaypur gave a brief on Moot Court and its importance for trainees, especially investigation officers.
