Srinagar: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two youth in connection with the attempted murder of a Polytechnic student following an altercation between the two sides at Government Polytechnic Bemina.
A 19-years old student from Sopore was hospitalized after being attacked by two youths with a sharp edged weapon at the college premises here this afternoon, a police official said.
Identified as Mehran Ahmad, son of Parvaiz Ahmad Khuroo of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the student suffered injuries in his head, chest and lower back portion in the attack.
He said the incident took place following an altercation between him and the accused in the college premises. The accused duo, police said, in a fit of rage stabbed the victim multiple times, leaving him critically injured.
The official said the injured was immediately evacuated to the SKIMS Medical College Bemina for treatment and is said to be stable. The accused duo, he said, was arrested barely an hour after carrying out the attack.
The accused have been identified as Abrar Shabir, son of Shabir Ahmad Dar of Chadoora area in central Budgam, and Rahil Ali, son of Ali Mohammad Pahloo of Dalgate Srinagar.
A case (FIR no 89 of 2023) under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered at police station Bemina in this regard and further investigations initiated.
