Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have arrested a gang of five drug smugglers including a woman, and recovered contraband substance and cash from their possession, a police spokesman informed Sunday.

He said a police party at a checkpoint established at Kunzer Baramulla, intercepted a vehicle (JK15A-7113) with five persons on board, and recovered 530 grams of cannabis and cash of ₹21,000, believed to be proceeds of narcotic trade, from their possession.

All the five accused identified as Adil Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad; Umer Mohiuddin Ahanger — both residents of Goom Ahmadpora;  Hayat Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Kawoosa; Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed; and Nargis, wife of Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Umerabad Srinagar, were arrested and the vehicle seized, police said, adding a case has been registered for further investigations.
