Jammu/Srinagar:  An Afghan national, who was arrested near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for his alleged links with “Pakistan-based terrorists”, a police official said on Thursday.

Abdul Wahid with a disability in left leg was taken into custody by the Army from Dabi-Basuni village of Balakote sector while he was trying to sneak into this side from across the border on Monday. He was handed over to police for further legal action the next day.

The official said an FIR under various sections of the UAPA and the Egress and Internal Movement (Control) Ordinance was registered against the accused on the information of the Army, the official said, adding “his questioning revealed that he was associated with terror group ‘Al-Badr’ and had come to this side for a recce of the area without generating any suspicion due to his disability”.

Meanwhile, a local court on Thursday granted the police 10 days remand of the Afghan national for questioning.

Wahab was produced in the Munsiff court in sub-division Mendhar, where police sought his remand for questioning, the official said. (With inputs from PTI)

Meanwhile, six Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) “terrorist associates” have been arrested in Baramulla and Budgam districts, officials said on Thursday.

They said a terror module was unearthed in the Uri area of Baramulla in north Kashmir and three terrorist associates of LeT involved in running the module were arrested.

Acting on a tip off, security forces in a joint patrol apprehended one suspected person whose search led to recovery of two grenades, they said.

The individual was identified as Showkat Ali Awan, son of Abdul Karim Awan, resident of Churunda area of Uri.

During his questioning, he revealed the names of his accomplices Ahmad Din, son of Shukur Din, and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana, son of Umer Din, both residents of Churunda Uri, who were also arrested and upon their disclosure two grenades, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine and four live rounds were recovered from them, the officials said.

“The accused were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities,” the officials said.

A case has been registered and investigations have been taken up, they added.

In another incident, security forces arrested three terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Budgam in central Kashmir and recovered incriminating materials from their possession.

The arrests were made in Khansaheb area of the district.

The terrorist associates have been identified as Qaisar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Kremshora; Tahir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Wagar, and Aqib Rashed Ganie, son of Abdul Rashed Ganie of Wagar, the officials said.

Incriminating materials, including a Chinese hand grenade, two magazines and 57 live rounds have been recovered from their possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation, they said.

A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up.
