Srinagar, Aug 04: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three associates of The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in Natipora area of uptown Srinagar.

A senior police official said that three terrorist associates of TRF outfit were arrested at a checkpoint near Harnambal, Natipora area of the city this afternoon at a checkpoint established there following specific intelligence inputs regarding their movement.

Three hand grenades, 10 pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, besides other incriminating material has been recovered from the trio identified as Imran Ahmad Najar, son of Late Abdul Rehman Najar of Bulbul Bagh Baramulla; Waseem Ahmad Matta, son of Tariq Ahmad Matta of Qamarwari Srinagar; and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, of Pazalpora Bijbehara.

A case under section 3/4 Explosive Act, 7/25 Arms Act, 18, 23, 39 UAPA Act was registered at Police Station Chanapora and investigation was taken up.

The trio, officials said, will be produced before the court for remand.

Meanwhile a police spokesman said the trio was planning to carry out terrorist activities in Srinagar after collecting explosive substances from active terrorists of the banned organization.

“During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the trio had collected the explosive substances and ammunition from active terrorists of TRF for carrying terrorist activities in Srinagar city,” the spokesman added.

He also said that one of them — Wakeel Ahmad Bhat — was earlier an active terrorists of banned outfit ISJK and was lodged in jail for two years. He said Wakeel was released recently from Central Jail on bail.
