Director Horticulture Kashmir tours various areas of Baramulla

SRINAGAR: In a move to assure the commitment of the Department towards fostering progressive horticultural practices and fortifying the horticultural landscape of the area, the Director Horticulture Kashmir, G.R. Mir today toured various areas of Baramulla district.

Commencing the tour, the Director of Horticulture visited the Kunzer area of the district, where he inspected a high-density apple orchard established in collaboration with the Department at village Lalpora, spanning 05 kanals.

During the visit, Mir engaged with local orchardists, attentively absorbing their perspectives and needs, while assuring them of unwavering support. 

He urged the field functionaries of the Department to extend comprehensive technical expertise to orchardists, encompassing every aspect from training and pruning to harvesting techniques, encompassing thinning, fertigation, nutrient management, and comprehensive pest and disease control measures.

Continuing the tour, Director of Horticulture conducted a thorough assessment of operations at the Departmental Fruit Plant Nursery (DFPN) Kralwath, Kunzer, and the Fruit Plant Nursery (FPN) Zangam, Pattan. He underscored the significance of nurturing superior-quality fruit plants, equipping the region to compete proficiently on both national and international platforms.

Mir encouraged optimal land and resource utilization within the nurseries, reinforcing the importance of swift nursery operations and accentuating a dedicated focus on both orchard and nursery hygiene.

Culminating the tour, Director of Horticulture visited high-density apple orchards in the Pattan area, engaging directly with the local farming community. This open exchange of insights further highlighted the Department’s resolve to foster a symbiotic partnership with the community, ultimately enhancing the horticultural landscape of the region.

The tour marked a significant stride in advancing horticulture practices within the region, affirming the Department’s commitment to innovative approaches and quality enhancement.

Director Horticulture reiterated the Department’s dedication to supporting local farmers, bolstering agricultural excellence, and nurturing a thriving horticultural ecosystem.

He was accompanied by R. P. Singh, District Horticulture Officer, Baramulla, and other officers from the Department.
