DLSA Srinagar hosts orientation, sensitization prog on Child Rights

SRINAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority held a captivating Orientation and Sensitization program on Child Rights.

This enlightening event, organized by DLSA, Srinagar, was an ode to the protection and promotion of children’s rights and brought together participants from diverse backgrounds including Police Officers, Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers, Members of the Juvenile Justice Board, Members of Legal Aid Defence Counsel System and Members of Child Welfare Committee.

Chairman DLSA, Srinagar, Jawad Ahmad graced the occasion as the chief guest, imparting the event with great significance and motivation.

As a testament to the commitment of DLSA, Srinagar, in promoting child rights, the event welcomed Masarat Roohi, Principal Judge, Family Court, Srinagar; Mukund Tibrewal (IPS on probation) presently posted as SHO Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar; Dr. Khair-un-Nisa, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Srinagar, and Adv. Mujtaba, Child Rights Activist, was the guest speaker. Their presence and participation added immense value and insight to the program.

The program commenced on a melodious note with the uplifting strains of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Theme Song, resonating with the audience and setting the tone for the day’s proceedings.

Chairman DLSA, in his address, emphasized the vital role that all stakeholders play in upholding and advocating for children’s rights. He underscored the importance of empowering the younger generation with knowledge of their rights and encouraged the participants to become torchbearers in protecting the rights of children.

Masarat Roohi, in her enlightening presentation, highlighted the pivotal role of family courts in securing the welfare of children and reaffirmed her commitment to dispense justice in child-related cases.

Mukund Tibrewal shared invaluable insights about the collaborative efforts of the police department in ensuring the protection of children and fostering a safe environment for their growth. He highlighted the two major issues of substance abuse and sexual exploitation of children and emphasized upon the significance of a collaborative approach between law enforcement and legal entities in ensuring the safety and well-being of children.

Dr. Khair-un-Nisa, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, passionately addressed the audience, discussing the challenges faced by vulnerable children and the vital role of the Committee in providing them with care and support.

Adv. Mujtaba, a dedicated Child Rights Activist, ignited the spirit of advocacy among the attendees, urging them to be proactive champions of child rights.

A poignant moment during the program was the distribution of cheques under the victim compensation scheme, exemplifying the compassion and solidarity extended to the victims of child rights violations.

As a visual treat, a thought-provoking short film on child rights was screened, resonating deeply with the audience and reinforcing the urgency of prioritizing the protection of children’s rights.

The Orientation and Sensitization Program on Child Rights organized by DLSA, Srinagar, left an indelible impact on all participants. The event served as a catalyst to encourage collective action in safeguarding the rights of children and fostering a safe and nurturing environment for their holistic development.
