SHOPIAN: The Vice Chairperson, J&K KVIB, Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat today visited the district Shopian and presided over an Awareness Camp at Mini Secretariat, here.

District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Faz lul Haseeb attended the programme as a Guest of Honour.

During the programme, the officers gave detailed presentations about the modalities involved in the implementation of employment generation programmes like PMEGP, JKREGP, etc. The stakeholders and potential youth were informed about the procedure of applying for benefits under different schemes being run by KVIB through online mode, through designated web portals viz. kviconline.gov.in. and jkkvib.org.in.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hina stated that promoting entrepreneurship and skill development, especially among women and marginal sections of society, is a key focus of J&K KVIB.

She added that KVIB-tailored capacity-building programmes and skill development initiatives are to a great extent, targeted towards women and marginalized communities to motivate/ empower them and enjoined upon the prospective entrepreneurs to come forward and channelize their energy for Nation building through setting up their own income generation units.

The Vice Chairperson informed that during the 1st quarter of the current financial year, 210 cases involving Margin Money of Rs. 4.10 crores have been sanctioned in District Shopian under PMEGP & JKREGP and assured that KVIB in collaboration with financial institutions shall extend every kind of hand-holding support to aspirants/prospective entrepreneurs to ensure hassle-free processing of their proposals, both at Implementing Agency as well as at bank level.

Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner, Shopian while lauding the role of J&K KVIB in employment generation, underscored the need for conducting more awareness/sensitization campaigns to disseminate information about the schemes and programmes among the local communities.

He stated that the Khadi and Village Industries sector has the potential to contribute significantly to economic growth. He added that providing employment opportunities to local communities, it helps in reducing unemployment, and poverty, and through strategic planning, investment, and support, the sector can become a major driver of economic activity and livelihood enhancement.

DDC member, Raja Waheed said that youth of the district should come forward to avail opportunities under various schemes meant for their betterment. He stressed on the banks to facilitate the youth while sanctioning loans.

Ajaz Ahmed Mir, a DDC member opined that KVIB plays a vital role in providing better employment facilities to the people by establishing their own various income-generating Units and asked for organizing such awareness camps at Tehsil levels too.

The programme was also attended by the MC President, other DDC members, MC Councilors, officers from District Administration, Banks, Board, and a large number of aspirant entrepreneurs and educated unemployed youth.
