Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam, Handwara and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police spokesman informed Saturday.

He said in Kulgam, 11 kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of one Arshid Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Machewa, following which he was arrested.

In Handwara, at Batagund crossing, police arrested one Aquib Nazir Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat of Kargam Handwara after 50 gms of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Baramulla, a drug-smuggler was arrested one Bilal Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather of Bandi Payeen Chandoosa during checking at Daru Chandoosa and 400 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
