Srinagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Saturday informed that it has trapped a clerk in the office of Tehsildar in Boniyar (Uri) red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
Sharing details of the case, the ACB said it had received a written complaint from a person saying that after having qualified for the post of Lumberdar Mohura in Tehsil Office Boniyar, when he approached Tehsildar Boniyar for the appointment order, the latter told him to contact his office clerk for the same.
However, the office clerk Marefatul Haq initially demanded ₹2,000 from the complainant as bribe for preparing and issuing his appointment order as Lumberdar Mohura.
But despite paying him ₹2,000, the concerned clerk, now subsequently started demanding another ₹10,000 from the complainant for preparation and issuance of his appointment order, the ACB said.
When the complainant brought the matter into the notice of ACB, the anti-graft agency registered a formal case (FIR No. 06/2023), and laid a trap and caught the accused clerk red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹10,000 from the complainant in Tehsil Office Boniyar.
He was arrested on the spot after completing legal formalities, ACB said, adding that during his personal search, suspicious bundles of currency amounting ₹64,500 were also recovered which was seized as he failed to account for the source of the money recovered from his possession.
ACB said further investigation in the case is going on and searches at the residence of the accused are being conducted at Chandilora, Tangmarg, as well as at Hamdania Colony, Bemina, Srinagar.
