Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug smugglers/peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson said Thursday.
He said in Baramulla, police arrested a drug smuggler — Ajay Kumar, son of Tara Chand, resident of Kishanpuri Khadta Jammu, at Kalsari Pattan after they intercepted his truck (JK14B-6113) and recovered 14.2 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance from it.
At a checkpoint established at Hardu Ichloo Tangmarg, police arrested one Umar Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Ahad Lone of Waniloo Hajibal, after 30 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
In Handwara, police arrested Amir Yousuf Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf; and Junaid Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahim, both residents of Waskora, after 95 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from their possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations initiated.
