Srinagar: Terrorists on Thursday shot at and injured three migrant laborers in Gagran village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
“Terrorists fired upon three outside laborers in Shopian. Injured persons are Anmol Kumar, Pintu Kumar Thakur, and Heralal Yadav, all residents of Distt Supaul, Bihar, being shifted to hospital,” Kashmir Zone Police said on Twitter.
The area has been cordoned off and a hunt launched to nab the attackers.
The injured were rushed to a local hospital wherefrom, reportedly, they have been referred to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
The initial reports suggested that two masked terrorists barged into the rented residence of these migrant laborers around 08.45 pm and fired upon them with a pistol injuring the trio.
Further details were awaited while this report was being written.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, strongly condemned the terror attack in Shopian in which three people have been injured.
The Lt Governor said such barbaric acts targeting laborers highlight the desperation and cowardice of terrorists and their sympathizers.
He has directed the district administration to ensure all possible assistance to those injured and their family members.
The Lt Governor said no efforts will be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, the National Conference vice-president, condemned the attack and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“Very unfortunate. I unreservedly condemn this attack and send my best wishes to the injured. I hope they make a complete and speedy recovery,” Abdullah said in a tweet.
Altaf Thakur, the BJP’s spokesperson in Jammu and Kashmir, said, “Strongly denounce the attack on unarmed nonlocal laborers in Gagran, Shopian district by the terrorists. This reflects frustration, inhumanity, and cheapness of terrorists involved (in) the gruesome attack on three nonlocal laborers who had gone to buy grocery items.”
Thakur urged the police to track those involved in the act and punish them sternly.
Praying for a speedy recovery of all three injured men, he said.
