Srinagar: Police on Monday evening said it has arrested ten persons in a case related to “conspiracy of reviving banned organisation JKLF & Hurriyat”.
In this regard, a case (FIR No 23/2023) under sections 10, 13 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act & section 121A of IPC already stands registered in Police Station Kothibagh, police said in a statement.
“The arrested persons and others were planning to revive these organisations on the directions of Pakistan-based handlers. This meeting was an overt attempt to start working for revival of these moribund organizations,” police statement said.
It said initial investigation has also revealed that “they were in touch with entities based abroad, few of them were members of many groups that propagate secessionism like Kashmir Global Council headed by Farooq Siddiqui and Raja Muzaffer of JKLF.”
“Under the garb of manufactured pretext, this meeting which took place, the real agenda of the meeting was discussing strategy of revival. Initial investigation has also revealed that a similar preliminary meeting took place on 13th June 2023, which was attended by most of them,” police said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Nigeenbagh Srinagar; Mohammad Rafiq Pahloo son of Ghulam Hassan of Natipora; Shams u din Rehmani, son of Amir Ahmad of Lalbazar; Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Batengo Sopore; Khurshid Ah Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Rawalpora; Shabir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi of Badamwari Sopore; Sajad Hussain Gul, son of Abdul Hamid of Panthachowk, Srinagar; Firdous Ahmad Shah, son of Ali Mohammad of Abiguzar Srinagar; Parray Hassan Firdous, son of Abdul Rashid of Lawaypora Srinagar; and Sohail Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam of Peerbagh, Budgam.
Investigation in the case is in full swing and some more arrests are likely, police said.
As reported earlier, JK Police tweeted on Sunday: “A Search was conducted on basis of credible info about meeting of some ex-trts of JKLF & erstwhile separatists in a hotel in Srinagar. They were brought to Kothibagh PS for verification. Inquiry has started, prima facie it came out that they were planning to revive JKLF & Hurriyat”.
The Police, however, did not elaborate if the persons were arrested or let go after verification.
Meanwhile, a local news agency KNO reported that over three dozen members of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and erstwhile separatists were detained from a restaurant in Srinagar on Sunday where a meeting was being held to ‘revive the JKLF and Hurriyat’ in the Union Territory.
Quoting sources, KNO reported that the meeting among the JKLF members and erstwhile separatists was going on at a local restaurant near Police Station Kothibagh.
