Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Thursday.
They said a police party arrested a drug-peddler identified as Mohammad Saleem Khan, son of Mushtaq Ahmad of Manzgam at Lilam Crossing Handwara, after recovering one Kg of cannabis from his possession.
In Awantipora, a police arrested four drug peddlers — Tawseef Ahmad Parray, son of Ghulam Hassan Parray of Pujtang Sangam; Tariq Ahmad Kutoo, son of Ghulam Nabi Kutoo of Tailbal Nishat Srinagar; Sujha Saleem, son of Bashir Ahmad Tarbie, resident of Devar Tral; and Muzamil Hussain Teli, son of Ghulam Hassan Teli of Habbak Srinagar – at Toll Plaza Chersoo after 2.45 Kgs of poppy straw, 2.5 grams of brown sugar and six grams of cannabis were recovered from their possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
