Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Thursday.
They said in Kulgam, during routine patrolling near Navyug Tunnel Qazigund, police intercepted a vehicle (CH03R-3855) with four persons onboard. During the search of the vehicle, 830 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered.
Sher Aalam Khan, son of Nawab Khan; Sohail Ahmad Khan, son of Shahzad Ahmad Khan, both residents of Dadoo Marhama, Anantnag; Ashraf Ali, son of Noor Mohammad of Dandal Udhampur, and Makhan Lal, son of Hans Raj, resident of Ossu Udhampur, travelling in the car have been arrested and vehicle seized, police said.
In Baramulla, one Zubair-ul-Islam, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar of Tantraypora Palhallan Pattan, was arrested during a raid on his house which yielded 9.2 Kgs of grinded poppy straw-like contraband substance.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
