From Tears to Triumph – BOSE says cheese after giving sleepless nights to 165 students

Srinagar: After giving sleepless nights to at least 165 students of 12th standard for showing them failed in recently declared results. Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Monday announced amendment and revised notification wherein all of them have been shown as “passed.”

Pertinent to mention that a group of class 12 students Saturday held a protest demonstration in Srinagar’s Press Enclave alleging discrepancies in the results declared by the BOSE.

The protesting students alleged that scores of students of Government Higher Secondary School Kakapora have been marked absent for practical paper of chemistry subject and subsequently marked as not qualified.

Following the protests, JKBOSE on Monday announced the amendment and revised notification of those students who were declared failed due to the ‘lackadaisical approach of either from their parental school or the BOSE’.

In a notification, BOSE said, “Further to the Higher Secondary Part Two examination results, at least 165 roll numbers’ results are amended, revised, and declared.”

On Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education announced annual regular results of 12th standard with an overall pass percentage of 65 percent.

However, JKBOSE has a readymade explanation for this faux pas. It claims the parental school of those students had not updated their award roll.

And the BIG QUESTION IS:

If the parental school hadn’t updated the practical award roll, how did the authorities go ahead with the final results?

Parents and students want heads to roll.

“Though I don’t subscribe to the theory of getting more marks or a higher percentage, the fact of the matter is that society has accepted it as a norm, SADLY. The error of JKBOSE would have cost so many lives if not corrected immediately. I appeal to the UT administration that there should be an overhauling of JKBOSE immediately. Let no one play with the lives of our wards,” said a parent, whose ward was shown as qualifying for the examination in the revised notification.

“Heads should role,” said another parent.

With teary eyes, he said that his entire family was crying all the time.

“I knew my daughter can’t fail, but JKBOSE declared her failed. She is a courageous girl, who went out to protest and finally proved herself right. But who should pay for our trauma? JKBOSE is so irresponsible that it doesn’t give a damn to the aspirations of the Kashmiri parents,” said the parent of yet another, just declared ‘passed’ girl.

“JKBOSE authorities should apologize, and apologize publicly. They have tortured us. They can’t take refuge in some ‘miscommunication’ thing. The administration should revamp the agency and appoint people there who are a bit sensitive to the situations,” asserted yet another parent.

However, the parents and the students are highly appreciative of the LG administration that, while noticing the discrepancy, ordered a re-evaluation of the results.

“Had the LG office not intervened, our children would have lost the year due to the incompetency of JKBOSE. So, we demand stern action against the concerned authorities,” said some parents.
