Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug-peddlers including a woman in Kulgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Sunday.
Acting on information that two persons — Manzoor Ahmad Naik and Ali Mohammad Naik, both sons of Ghulam Qadir Naik of Naikpora, Kulgam — have hoarded contraband substance at their residential houses, police conducted a raid and recovered 41 Kgs and 34 Kgs of poppy straw from their respective houses. Both the drug peddlers were arrested.
A police party during patrolling at Rangrezpora Kulgam intercepted a woman — Rafeeqa Akhtar, wife of Mashooq Ahmad Shah of Rangrezpora Kulgam – and recovered 14.4 Kgs of poppy straw from a nylon bag she was carrying. She has been arrested and shifted to Women Police Cell Kulgam.
In Baramulla, one Javid Ahmad Mir alias Jai Kandur, son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir of Khambiyar Palhallan was arrested after nine bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
