Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla, Awantipora and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Saturday.
They said in Baramulla, a police party intercepted a suspicious person at Palhallan Morh Pattan. During search, 72 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus and 4 bottles of codeine phosphate was recovered from his possession following which he was arrested. He has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani alias Shabir, son of Ghulam Nabi Wani of Bhat Mohalla Pattan.
Police also arrested a drug smuggler Abdul Gani Sofi, son of Abdul Rashid Sofi of Shumlaran Chandoosa during checking at Galibal Chandoosa. During checking, 18 grams of cannabis and another 32 grams of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In Awantipora, at Panzgam Bachipora Crossing, one Gulzar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar of Panzgam was arrested after 4.2 Kgs of grinded poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said.
In Kulgam, at Kewa one Mukhtar Ahmad Sood, son of Ghulam Hassan Sood of Gujarbasti, Kewa was arrested and one kg of ganja-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Daderkoot, one Suhail Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Ganie of Daderkoot was arrested after seven grams of heroin-like contraband substance from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated in all these instances, police said.
