Hunted by death, neglected by authorities, PDD workers have nowhere to go

Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi National Conference (NC) leader, Member of Parliament (MP)

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Member of the Parliament from Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi on Saturday asked the government to come to the rescue of students who are the beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) but had inadvertently applied for National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Highlighting the issue of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) declaring the admissions of students from Kashmir studying under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Schemes (PMSSS) void just because they had inadvertently applied for scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) while they were availing the PMSSS, Madoodi said, “The students are ready to return any advantage that they have taken from NSP but their admissions shouldn’t be declared null and void to their disadvantage. I had brought the issue to the notice of the honorable PM and highlighted it in the Parliament as well. Regretfully, the concerned ministry came to the rescue of students from Jammu and Ladakh only and left the ones from the Kashmir division distraught. The number of these students whose fate hangs in the lurch is around 200.”

Urging the Union Ministry of Education to take note of the issue and come to the rescue of many such students from Kashmir as was done in the case of the students from Jammu & Ladakh, Masoodi demanded that the lapse in all probability may be due to mere inadvertence, it is condoned or at the most, the beneficiary asked to return and the benefit drawn under NSP without threatening cancellation of admission and benefits under Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
