Srinagar: Police alongwith security forces have arrested two “terrorist associates” linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Sopore and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition and an IED from their possession, a police spokesman informed Wednesday.

He said that based on specific input regarding the presence of two suspected individuals near the Saidpora Bypass area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police with the help of the Army’s 22RR and CRPF 179 Bn in the area.

During the search operation, two individuals — Kaiser Manzoor Mir, son of Manzoor Ahmad, resident of Behl Mohalla Saidpora, and Muzaffar Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Majeed Mir, resident of Shalpora, Brat Kalan — who were trying to run away in an attempt to break the cordon, were arrested, a police spokesman said.

He said during initial questioning, they confessed that they were working as “associates for local active terrorist Bilal Ahmad Mir, resident of Brath Kalan Sopore, linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT.”

Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including 15 pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, one IED, and two hand grenades were recovered from their possession, the spokesman said.

A case under relevant sections of law stands registered and further investigation is in progress, the spokesman said.
