ANANTNAG: The Food Safety Department (FSD) Anantnag has seized food items worth Rs 1 Lakh from the premises of M/S: Quality World Mattan.

The seized items include Fit Cracker (Pran), Biscuit Potato (Pran), and Pran Fit milk flavored biscuits after they were found to be of unsafe quality due to the presence of sulphite as Soz above the maximum prescribed limit. The reports came from the National Food Laboratory Ghaziabad, which prompted the Food Safety Department to conduct a thorough investigation.

The department also procured 03 enforcement samples from the seized stock for further analysis.

Additionally, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Adjudicating Officer under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006) Anantnag imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on 07 erring Food Business Operators, including a prominent company, for violating the regulatory provisions of law under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The accused FBOs were convicted during the trial of the cases filed by the Food Safety Department. The statutory samples procured by the Food Safety Officers of the district for analysis at National Food Laboratory Ghaziabad and Food Laboratory Kashmir were declared as of Sub-Standard/Misbranded Quality.

The Food Safety Department has been proactive in ensuring the safety of food items sold in the district. They have been conducting regular checks on various food items to ensure that they are of good quality and meet the prescribed standards.

Meanwhile, the department has urged the public to be vigilant and report any instances of substandard food items being sold in the market.

The Food Safety Department has assured the public that they will continue to be vigilant and take strict action against those found violating the prescribed standards.
