Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Baramulla, Anantnag and Ganderbal, and recovered huge quantities of contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Wednesday.
A police party in Boniyar, intercepted a vehicle (JK05D-6547) driven by a “wanted” drug peddler Sajid Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Afzal Khan resident of Mohura, at a checkpoint at Noorkhah Crossing. During the search, one kilogram of cannabis was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle seized, police spokesman said.
In Anantnag, police arrested one Nazir Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani of Sirhama Sirgufwara, after a raid on his house yielded 5 kgs of poppy straw, spokesman said.
In Ganderbal, police arrested two drug peddlers — Mohammad Shafi Ganie, son of Noor Mohammad Ganie of Waripora, and Jamshed Maqbool Wani, son of Mohammad Maqbool Wani of Wani Mohalla Safapora. During their search, cannabis and ‘Bhang Patri’ was recovered from their possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in all these instances and investigation has been initiated.
