Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug-peddlers in Baramulla, Sopore and Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Monday.

In Delina Baramulla, police recovered 10 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of cannabis-like substance from a vehicle (JK01AS-5295) driven by Jaleel Ahmad Shah, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah, resident of Kanispora, who was arrested and the vehicle seized, a police spokesperson said.

At Bagat Colony Rohama, 113 grams of cannabis-like substance were recovered from the possession of Muhammad Lateef Lone, son of Muhammad Sultan Lone, and Aadil Ahmad Lone, son of Muhammad Rajab Lone, both residents of Naidhal Rafiabad. They have been arrested.

At Jamal Mir Pattan, police intercepted a vehicle (JK01L-4881) and recovered 145 grams of cannabis-like substance from the possession of three persons — Riyaz Ahmad Gojri, son of Mohammad Ramzan Gojri, resident of Jamia Mohalla Pattan; Naseer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Pattan, and Imtiyaz Ahmad Sada, son of Mohammad Subhan Sada of Aram Mohalla Pattan — travelling in it. They have been arrested.

Pertinently in the last four months, police said in Baramulla also they have registered 115 cases under NDPS Act, arrested 156 drug-peddlers including 10 “most wanted” drug-smugglers, detained nine drug-peddlers under PSA and recovered contraband substances worth crores (value of contraband in black market).

Meanwhile, near Satkreeri in Ganderbal, two persons — Ghulam Mohammad Ahanger, son of Ghulam Ahmad Ahanger of Nesbal and Irfan Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Kharbagh– were arrested after contraband substances were recovered from their car (DL2CAK-3882), police said.

It said cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations in all these instances and further investigations have been initiated.
