Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday commended the determination of working classes, saying that the party will continue to work for the welfare of fixed-income groups and daily wagers including artisans.

This he, according to the NC spokesperson, said while addressing a function commemorating International Labour Day at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. The event was organized by the labor union leader Thakur Nar Singh. Among others, Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta, Senior leaders Ajay Sadhotra, Javed Rana, Aijaz Jan, and Sheikh Bashir Ahmed were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Dr. Farooq appreciated the toil of workers from organized as well as unorganized sector and said, “We celebrate 1st May as International Labor Day around the globe, however, the indigenous struggle of our own people at Zaldagar, and silk factory is often forgotten. The history of political struggle in Jammu & Kashmir has been watered by the sacrifices of the working classes. Zaldagar and Silk factory agitations during the last century gave vent to a massive people’s movement led by Sher-e-Kashmir. We as a sensible community should commit to memory the supreme sacrifice rendered by those martyrs.”

“As far as NC is concerned, we remain committed to the welfare of working classes both organized and unorganized. The directive principles enshrined in the Naya Kashmir manifesto seek to protect the interests of the working classes besides meeting their basic needs which include health, education, housing, and earnings. On this day, I on behalf of my party express fraternal solidarity with Daily wagers, need-based, seasonal, casual Labours, ASHA’s under NHM, Anganwadi workers and helpers, Mid-Day Meal workers, CPWs, MGNREGA employees, contractual, construction workers, artisans. We will continue to air their concerns at all appropriate forums. They aren’t alone in their struggle, NC is and will continue to shoulder their concerns,” he added.

Meanwhile, party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani also paid glowing tributes to working classes in a commemorative May Day function here at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha and said that NC has always been a benefactor of small marginalized traders, daily wagers, fixed income groups, and other workers from both organized and unorganized class.
