The Tourism department held a model G20 summit — a prelude to the main event which is scheduled to take place from May 22-24. The prelude event was attended by more than 60 students from various colleges and universities.

The Tourism secretary said it is a massive event for J&K and has the potential to promote J&K tourism at the international level.

The general public of Jammu and Kashmir, including students, are widely participating in various events in the run-up to the main meet.

“Tourism is the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and the maximum share of the Union territory’s GDP comes from tourism,” he said.

The Summit was organised by Directorate of Tourism Kashmir and held as a replica of original 3rd Tourism Working Group Meet to be held at SKICC in the last week of May this year.

The Secretary further said that this Model G-20 Summit is also a big opportunity for professional and personal intellectual growth of participating students.

Director Tourism Kashmir, Faz Lul Haseeb in his address spoke about the importance of Model G-20 Summit. He highlighted that this replication of original G-20 Summit is an opportunity for the young students to hone their public speaking intellect.

Subject experts from Central University of Kashmir, IUST, Kashmir University and others also spoke on the occasion and spoke in length about the importance of G-20 meet.

The Model G-20 Summit was aimed at providing students with an opportunity to engage in international diplomacy and to gain a better understanding of global issues.
