6 drug peddlers arrested with contraband substances

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials said Friday.

They said a police party during routine patrolling at Shranz Crossing Tangmarg arrested a drug-peddler — Mohammad Ashraf Malla, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Dodbugh, and recovered 50 grams of contraband cannabis and cash of ₹27300  (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) from his possession, police said in a statement.

At Hamrey Pattan, police arrested a drug peddler Mohammad Yaqoob Dar, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Renji Pattan and recovered 96 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus and 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession.

At Ijara Crossing bridge in Boniyar, 90 grams of cannabis, 800 grams of dry cannabis leaves and cash of ₹41355 (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) were recovered from the possession of Mohammad Amin Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh of Ijara Boniyar.

At Rawathpora Delina, a car (HP40D-3856) was intercepted and 10 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the possession of Zahid Hussain Wani, son of Ghulam Hassan Wani of Hardushiva Sopore, travelling in the said car.

In Kulgam, near Zadoora Crossing six sticks of cannabis-like substance weighing around 100 grams was recovered from the possession of Safeer Ahmad Dar, son of Khalil Mohammad Dar of Nowpora.

In Awantipora, one Basir Manzoor Akhoon, son of Manzoor Ahmad Akhoon, was arrested at Tulbagh Pampore and 1100 grams of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in all these instances and further investigations initiated, police said.
