Sopore/Srinagar: Police Tuesday said that they have busted a major interstate drug module by arresting five persons including a kingpin woman while contraband substance has also been seized.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sopore, Shabir Nawab, as reported by news agency KNO said that on March 01, police had arrested two persons — Tanveer Ahmed Shah and Javaid Ahmed Shah of Sopore, at a checkpoint at Tarzoo, and recovered 3,512 Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules/tablets from their possession.
He said that during investigation, they revealed the name of another person, who is involved in selling drugs in and around Sopore.
“Subsequently Amir Sadeeq Parra of Chandoosa Baramulla was also arrested and on his personal search 112 tablets were recovered,” the SSP said.
He said during further investigation names of two kingpins identified as Urooj, daughter of Mohammad Muzzafar Bhat of Batapora Sopore, and Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Late Farooq Ahmed Mir of Hathishah Sopore also surfaced.
“The duo was involved in supplying drugs from outside the valley to Sopore and other areas. On the confession of arrested persons, we managed to arrest the duo from Srinagar outskirts along with 1648 capsules. With their arrest we have managed to bust a major interstate module,” the SSP said.
Meanwhile, a case FIR No 07/2023, under Section 8/22-29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bomai and further investigation has been set into motion.
Separately, police arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party intercepted a suspicious person at Waterwani, and recovered 7.4 kgs of poppy straw concealed in the nylon bag from his possession. The alleged peddler identified as Rohit Kumar, son of Duresh Chand, a resident of Mathiya Hardoi Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police also said that it recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances in village Narwani in south Kashmir’s Shopian.
Acting on specific information, police raided the house of one Gulzar Ahmad Wani, son of Khazir Mohammad of Narwani, and recovered 5.5 kgs of Fuki and 5 kgs of Fuki powder from there. Efforts are on to nab Wani, police said.
