4 drug-peddlers arrested in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug-peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances, illegally procured forest herbs and cash from their possession, officials said Sunday.

They said on specific information regarding the presence of narcotics in the house of one Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Wali Mohammad Ganie at Trikanjan Boniyar, a police party alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the said house. During search, 10 grams of brown sugar, illegally procured forest herbs and cash of ₹2,36,000 was recovered. The said drug-peddler has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, a police spokesman said.

At a checkpoint established at Magraypora Wussan, a drug-peddler identified as Zulkarnain Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir of Shumnag Kupwara, was arrested and 15 grams of brown sugar was recovered from his possession.

At a checkpoint near Forest Office Boniyar, a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Hassan Ganie, son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie of Trikanjan Boniyar, was arrested and none grams of brown sugar was recovered from his possession.

At Dawaran Uri, one Zubair Ahmad Khan, son of Akhter Khan, resident of Dawaran Uri was arrested and 28 grams of brown sugar recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in all these instances and investigations have been initiated, police said.
