Srinagar: Two accused in a terror-related case, who escaped from police custody in Baramulla, were re-arrested this evening from old town Baramulla and are presently under custody at Police Station Baramulla, a police spokesman said.

“Two accused, who were under custody at police station Baramulla, escaped this morning in wee hours during ‘Sehari’ (pre-dawn meals) time,” a police official had earlier said.

The police later obtained CCTV footage of the duo running away through the market area, officials said.

“During the course of the investigation, after utilising technical and human intelligence and after hectic efforts, both the accused have been arrested this evening from old town Baramulla and are presently under custody at Police Station Baramulla,” the spokesman said.

The accused identified as Maroof Nazir Soleh and Shahid Showkat Bala – both residents of Baramulla – were part of a Falcon Squad (TRF) – Lashkar e Toiba offshoot and were arrested on May 19 last year, a police official said.

The spokesman said that apart from the attack on the wine shop, the module was involved in grenade throwing in town and firing attacks, etc over a period of time.

“Five pistols, 23 grenades, one suspicious package (likely IED) besides seven magazines, 205 rounds of ammunition, and 4 cleaning rods along with a bike used in the attack on the wine shop had been seized from their possession,” said the spokesman.

He further said that an investigation into the case is going on.
